More than 2,000 students are still without seats

MUMBAI: The state education department has announced yet another round for the left over first year junior college students (FYJC) after six rounds of admission. According to sources in the department, close to 2,000 to 5,000 students are still without a seat. Apart from these students, the ATKT (supplementary exams) students, who cleared their Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams last week, will also be added to the new round,  which will be on first come, first serve (FCFS) - II.

In the first round of FCFS, there were more than 20,000 to 25,000 students who applied for admissions, of which 12,000 to 15,000 students managed to secure a seat. The FCFS first round ended last week.

For the second round of FCFS, students can apply for seats in colleges before September 12. Over 70,000 plus seats are still available in MMR colleges. Department officials have warned students not to cancel admissions if they get a college as the possibility of having another round of admissions is very low. “If they don’t manage to get another seat in their desired college, the education department will not be responsible for the loss,” said education department official.

Unlike the previous FCFS round, which was divided into three parts, CFS round 2 will have only 60 per cent and above and followed by 35 per cent and above. For the third part of FCFS II, a new panel is being added for ATKT students.
