Congress starts 4th phase of Sangharsh Yatra
The Congress also demanded that the state government compensate farmers to the tune of Rs 1 lakh per hectare.
Mumbai: The fourth phase of Maharashtra Congress’s Jan Sangharsh Yatra started in western Vidarbha Tuesday. State Congress leaders slammed the BJP government for not handling the drought situation with sincerity. The Congress also demanded that the state government compensate farmers to the tune of Rs 1 lakh per hectare.
“The BJP and Shiv Sena government is itself a trouble for Maharashtra. People in the state are waiting for elections. They will throw them out. This government has not cared for any section of the people of the state. It is only working for industrialists and people in power,” said Ashok Chavan, state Congress president.
Opposition leader Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil said that chief minister Devendra Fadnavis was insensitive in terms of handling farmers’ issues. “In a recent session, we were asking for immediate compensation to the farmers. Also, we were asking for fodder camps. But the state government did not approve our demand. Rs 1 lakh per hectare is the demand for compensation. This government is insensitive and doesn’t understand the seriousness of drought,” he said.
The Maharashtra Congr-ess has planned a statewide Jan Sangharsh Yatra, wh-ich started from Kolhapur and is currently in its fou-rth phase. The first phase was in western Maharas-htra, the second in northern Maharashtra and the third in Marathwada. The last phase will be in eastern Vidarbha.
