Demand for Maratha reservation was made long back during the 1980's. Then Annasaheb Patil, leader of Mathadi Kamgar Union from various APMC markets was the prominent leader of this demand.

Mumbai: BJP Rajya Sabha (RS) MP Sambhaji Chhatrapati has written a letter to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, seeking withdrawal of cases registered against those who protested in favour of Maratha reservation in education and jobs.

Meanwhile, NCP leader Dhananjay Munde has also requested that these cases be withdrawn.

Sambhaji Chhatrapati had written a letter to the CM on December 1 and demanded not only the withdrawal of cases against those who agitated for Maratha reservation but also that the word “Chhatrapati” be added before writing Shivaji on every institution and at every public place.

He reminded Mr Thackeray about the incident where the host of television reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati had addressed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj only as Shivaji and people demanded an apology from him.

Every institution should include the word “Chhatrapati” before Shivaji (Maharaj) as a mark of respect to the warrior king, the letter said.

Apart from him, the NCP, which is one of the main constituents of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), has also demanded withdrawal of cases registered against those who protested for Maratha reservation.
