Six killed in accident on highway

Subsequently, the police registered an FIR at the concerned police station and took up investigation into the matter, the official sources said.

Pune: Six people from a family have been died in an accident as the car they were in was hit by a truck carrying tiles. The accident took place near Nipani near Kolhapur on Mumbai-Bengaluru highway.

The deceased were identified as Dr Mohsin Dilawar Jamadar, Junaid Jamadar, Lawar Jamadar, Rehana Jamadar, Afrin Jamadar and Ayan Jamadar. They hailed from Murgud village in Kagal Tehsil of Kolhapur district.

The truck going towards Mumbai from Belgaum lost control  and swerved around after its tyre burst and hit the victims’ car. All six died on the spot and their faces were difficult to indentify. Police identified the names through the indentity cards found in their car.

The truck driver was also seriously injured and undergoing treatment, the official added. Jamadar family was travelling to Bengaluru for a family function.
