Cop caught accepting Rs 25,000 bribe
The accused has been remanded to custody and further investigation is underway.
Mumbai: A Thane (rural) constable attached to Navghar police station in Bhayandar was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant Wednesday night. The accused constable, Ankush Mangal Bhoir (51), allegedly sought the bribe from the complainant to protect the latter’s brother from arrest in an accident case registered at Navghar police station.
The accused had been threatening the complainant to give in to his demands else additional sections would be slapped against his brother, leading to certain arrest. Fed up of the harassment, the aggrieved registered a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
Subsequently, the ACB team led by deputy SP, B.S. Sawant, laid a trap and Bhoir was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe money at around 8.50 pm on Wednesday. A case has been registered against the accused constable under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
