Mumbai Congress to create special manifesto
The manifesto will cover city issues such as traffic congestion, slum redevelopment, pollution and infrastructure.
Mumbai: The Mumbai Congress will come up with a supplementary manifesto for the Lok Sabha election. The Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC) held a meeting with Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) regarding the issue. The manifesto will cover city issues such as traffic congestion, slum redevelopment, pollution and infrastructure.
A source in the Congress party said that the MRCC has set up a committee to coordinate with the MPCC in order to deal with the issues of Mumbai. The issues include increasing pollution in city, the housing problem and GST impact among others.
A Congress leader said that the manifesto would also give an assurance about taking review of all the city bridges in light of the recent collapse of the bridge at the CSMT on March 14, which killed six and injured around 31.
Former Congress minister and sitting legislator Naseem Khan said, “We are coming up with a supplementary manifesto for Mumbai. It would be incorporated in the party’s national manifesto. The city manifesto will address the issues like dilapidated building and slums in city, providing 500 sq ft houses to the slum dwellers, etc.” The manifesto will be finalised within next two-three days.
In March, the Congress president Rahul Gandhi had promised to give 500 square feet homes to the slum dwellers under rehabilitation scheme.
