A6,500 law answer papers await assessment

Mumbai: Nearly 6,500 answer papers of the law faculty are yet to be assessed by the Mumbai University (MU). One-hundred-and-twenty days after the examination was conducted in December 2017-January 2018, students are still waiting for their results to be declared.

MU sources said that the varsity has been facing a faculty crunch due to which the assessment process is lagging. A source revealed, “Most of the law faculty professors are professional lawyers which makes it difficult for them to manage both assessment and their work. However, we have asked teachers and professors to make assessment of papers their top priority to speed up the assessment process.”

Arvind Tiwari, a second year law student of New Law College, said, “The MU is playing with the lives and careers of students. The government, too, is unconcerned about the plight of students. The affairs of the MU have been deteriorating every year. For the past five to six years, they have been unable to declare results on time. The delay in results affects students’ mental state. The chancellor of MU, who happens to be the governor of the state, too, has contributed to the mess, rather than solving the problems.”Vinod Malale, deputy registrar (public relations), examinations department, on Friday told this newspaper, “The university has not given any deadline for law results and our assessment is going on. One thousand and five hundred answer papers of the fifth semester of law are yet to be assessed. Our target is to declare the results as soon as possible.”

Further, the MU has already announced that the next law faculty exam will commence on May 22. There is every possibility that this exam may be postponed as the results of the previous exam are yet to be declared.
