Bail to 7 accused, including five custom officials, in bribery case
The CBI had arrested five customs officer and one person in connection with bribery case of Rs 50 lakh.
Mumbai: A special CBI court on Saturday granted bail to seven persons including custom officials accused in a bribery case on personal bond of Rs 25,000 each. The CBI had sought adjournment for filing reply on bail pleas as it has challenged remanding the accused to judicial custody. However, the judge refused to adjourn matter and passed the order without CBI’s proper reply.
The CBI judge while granting bail observed that CBI was seeking to make mountain out of mole.
The CBI had arrested five customs officer and one person in connection with bribery case of Rs 50 lakh. These accused were remanded to police custody for two days and later the court remanded them to judicial custody.
Meanwhile the CBI arrested one more wanted accused. Soon after being remanded to judicial custody all the accused filed for bail and the court had asked the CBI to file reply on bail applications on Saturday.
However, the CBI on Saturday approached HC challenging the special CBI court's order and seeking further custody of these accused.
