Parents approach dept for switch in stream, college
Parents wanted to change either the stream or the allotted colleges for their wards.
MUMBAI: On Thursday, after the state education department announced the first merit list for the first year junior college (FYJC) students, several parents approached the department with multiple questions and issues. Parents wanted to change either the stream or the allotted colleges for their wards.
When The Asian Age spoke to the parents they said they were unhappy with the colleges allotted colleges to their wards. “My son wanted admission in a Charni Road-based college, but he has got seat in Parel area,” said a parent. She said, “We got admission as per our first preference, but then we changed our mind, so now we don’t want admission in that college.”
Officials said that, such ambiguity happens every year, but none of the laid rules would be changed for any student. Rajendra Ahire, the deputy director of education, Mumbai region said, “Each and every rule has been defined to the students. In spite of that, if they have issues like these then they have to bear the consequences now.”
Another parent said, “Earlier, my son wanted to take admission in Science stream, but now he wants to take admission in Arts stream. We are confused about what to do and hence we came here to clear it.” According to the officials, students who have issues like these have to update their admission form on July 10 to get seat in the second merit list.
