Maratha Kranti Morcha will be held on August 9

Mumbai: After 57 protest rallies held across the state demanding reservation for Marathas, a massive rally has been planned in Mumbai for August 9 when the monsoon session of the legislature is on. The government has tried to woo organisers by inviting them for a discussion, which they said would happen only after the rally.
The main demand is to get justice for the victim of Kopardi rape case and reservation for the Maratha community. Lakhs of people are expected to march from Byculla zoo to Azad Maidan on Wednesday. “We have been conducting motor bike rallies to make people aware of the Mumbai rally. We want our demands to reach the government. Despite 57 morchas, it seems that the government is not very serious about our demands,” Bhaiyya Patil, the social media expert for Maratha Kranti Morcha said.
The first rally of the community was held last year after a Maratha girl was raped and brutally killed in Kopardi. The demand for reservation for the community intensified, as the subsequent rallies got a huge response.
Alarmed by the crowd gathering for the morchas, the government started a scheme for students under Economically Backward Classes by providing concessions to those with annual income less than Rs 6 lakh. It has even floated another scheme to have two hostels in each district for Maratha students.
