Major fire at Tardeo RTO office, papers gutted

The fire brigade was informed about the incident at around 5.20 am.

Mumbai: Hundreds of documents and other items were destroyed in a fire at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) of Tardeo on Sunday morning though there were no injuries. The fire was doused in three hours by the fire brigade that is ascertaining the cause of the fire.

“We received the fire call at around 5.20 am, a team from the brigade along with eight fire engines rushed to the spot immediately. The fire was doused completely by 8 am. However several papers of the department were gutted in the fire,” said P.S. Rahangdale, chief fire officer, Mumbai fire brigade. He further added, “The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained and the matter is under investigation.” The fire was confined to electric wiring, licence and other documents, furniture, computers, printers and other items in 15 to 20 cabins on the RTO’s ground floor.

“The flames went up till the roof destroying everything inside the office, papers were gutted to the extent that it is beyond recovery. There was    nobody inside the premises at the time of incident,” said another fire official. According to the fire officials, no casualty has been recorded so far.

According to reports, the fire gutted the documents from the learners’ license section and it is the second such fire mishap occurred in the RTO office since 2015.
