Mumbai: In a pre-emptive action based on specific information, the Goregaon police arrested a man who had planned to kidnap a five-year-old for ransom worth Rs 10 lakh. The accused was nabbed while kidnapping the boy from his residence.

According to the police, the accused, Sufian Ansari (25), a Jogeshwari resident, knew the boy’s father, a businessman. Further, it was found the accused was out of work as he had recently left a job where he had been working for three years and had planned the abduction to fund his dream of opening a mobile shop.

“He was frustrated with his situation of being unemployed and wanted to earn some easy money. Recently, Rajesh (name changed), who used to earlier stay in the same locality as the accused had bought a new house in Goregaon. The accused knew that businessman was really docile and would give the money without even thinking when it came to his child,” said a police officer.

Dhananjay Nalwade, Senior PI, Goregaon police station, said, “We received information about Sufian’s plan from one of his aide. He was doing recce of the area and following the child’s schedule to know when he came down to play in the building premises with his friends. On Saturday, the accused had planned on abducting the child by luring him with chocolates. We knew about it and so had already laid a trap to arrest him.”

“When the accused came to the area with the intention of abduction, we arrested him. The boy was handed over to his parents. During interrogation, we found the accused was frustrated because of being unemployed and wanted to earn some easy money,” the official added.
