Drones to monitor Chaityabhoomi

Mumbai: Shivaji Park is all set to observe Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’s 63rd death anniversary on Friday. Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray visited the BMC headquarters on Thursday to review disaster preparedness and arrangements for crowd management.

According to a BMC official, seven Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools near Shivaji Park will remain open to accommodate nearly 10,000 followers of Dr Ambedkar.

Lakhs of people from the different parts of the country congregate at ‘Chaitybhoomi’ on the Mahaparinirvan din (death anniversary of Dr Ambedkar) every year.

“BMC has installed 18 moving toilets at the ground,” the official said, adding that 16 tankers and 380 taps have been fitted to provide water facility.

Additionally, 300 mobile charging points have also been fitted and nearly 469 stalls have been permitted to conduct business at the ground.

In addition to deployment of security personnel on ground, this is the first time that the Mumbai police will use drones to keep a watch on the crowd for security purposes.

Besides, lifeguards have also been deployed at the seashore near the Chaityabhoomi.  

Brihanmumbai Elect-ricity Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) is also providing special bus facilities to and from Shivaji Park and Dadar. The BEST will provide offer water, snacks and free health check-ups to the followers. A book on Ambedkar will be distributed by the BEST for free.
