Container truck gets stuck beneath King's Circle flyover
The incident occurred around 5 am when the vehicle was on its way to Dadar.
Mumbai: A container truck got stuck under a bridge at Gandhi Market at King’s Circle on Tuesday morning, unleashing traffic chaos for cars and two-wheelers. The incident occurred around 5 am when the vehicle was on its way to Dadar from Chembur. The traffic police however diverted traffic to prevent traffic jams during morning rush hour. After rigorous attempts for five hours, the truck was removed from under the bridge.
The police detained the container’s driver for using the road under the bridge during daytime even though it is not allowed for large vehicles to do so, said an official of the Matunga police station. The traffic department and the Railways have decided to install height barriers near the bridge at Gandhi Market.
“The traffic was diverted to the second lane. During daytime, large vehicles like trucks are not allowed, as the bridge is small in height. However, the truck driver was not aware about it,” said a senior police official.
Earlier in February, a multi-axle vehicle got stuck in the gantry under the King’s Circle bridge, which brought the traffic near Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar flyover to a standstill. As such there, the movement of bigger vehicles are allowed only during late night hours.
“The traffic department and the Railways has decided to install height barriers near the bridge at Gandhi Market. We will also be deploying men to check upon the movement of bigger vehicles till the height barriers are installed,” said Amitesh Kumar, joint commissioner of police (traffic).
