Kanjurmarg not feasible for carshed: MMRC
The affidavit also pointed out that two high transmission lines crossed the site and would take one year to be diverted around the depot.
Mumbai: The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) in its affidavit to the Bombay high court stated that a car depot at Kanjurmarg for the Metro-3 corridor would entail an extra cost of Rs 750 crore. Apart from this, the land would have to be levelled up to three to four metres and has technical problems, which makes it non-feasible for the carshed site.
The affidavit pointed out that the general consultant for the MMRC has stated that there are several technical difficulties that would impose a significant risk to the project’s timely delivery.
“The land at Kanjurmarg would have to be filled by three to four metres to raise the depot above the highest flood level, but this was a large amount of filing and would conflict with two monsoon seasons in the time period, over and about which availability of the fill and logistics to get the fill were both uncertain (sic),” read the affidavit.
The affidavit also pointed out that two high transmission lines crossed the site and would take one year to be diverted around the depot. Meanwhile, activists have asserted that since a car depot for Metro 6 has been proposed at the Kanjurmarg site, it is unconvincing how the same area is not feasible for the Metro-3 line.
