Pune: Parents of the couple — engineering students Sarthak Waghchoure and Shruti Dumbare from Sinhgad Institute of Technology — who were found murdered at Lonavala, are disappointed with the alleged slow pace of the investigation. Their statements were recorded on Thursday. Around 60 persons detained in the case have been examined, though the police is yet to make a breakthrough.

The families of the deceased were asked to visit Lonavala police station on Thursday to record their statements. Dilip Waghchoure, Sarthak’s father who owns an electronic shop in Rahuri in Ahmednagar, expressed his disappointment at the slow process of investigation. He said to The Asian Age, “We know that government offices are lethargic. But even the police could not arrest a single person is disappointing.” He added, “My son was a friendly person with no enemy and he was also active in sports, culture and technology. He was students' president of the mechanical department (fourth year) in college. Why would somebody kill him? The police should have found the killers as of now as they have CCTV footage of that road and their mobile phone records.”

Shyam Waldode, Sarthak’s maternal uncle said, “Media should continue to put pressure on the police. Otherwise, they will go slow with the investigation. Recently, we saw the culprits in the Antara Das murder case getting discharged, as the police could not file a chargesheet within three months. This should not happen in case of our kids.” Rahul Dumbare, Shruti's brother reiterated, “The police should find out the killers as soon as possible before the case becomes old.”
