Woman assaulted in running train
Shaikh boarded the same local and coach of the CSMT-bound train as the complainant.
Mumbai: An inebriated man was arrested Thursday night by the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Dadar after he allegedly assaulted and molested a woman, who is his acquaintance, on a Kalyan-CST suburban local train.
The accused, Rafique Shaikh, a taxi driver, was accompanying the complainant, who was on her way to meet her husband at Kalyan. Shaikh, who was drunk, got off at Dombivali and asked the complainant to alert him when she returned so that he could join her in the same local train.
An hour later, Shaikh boarded the same local and coach of the CSMT-bound train as the complainant. Later, the complainant asked Shaikh about the Rs 95,000 that he owed her and when he would stop harassing her like this. Soon after, the complainant received a call, which enraged Shaikh, and he pounced on her and started beating her. When the complainant resisted and started hitting Shaikh back, he tore off parts of her clothes and dragged her to the door of the running train. Fellow passengers, one of whom recorded the incident on his cellphone camera, alerted the Dadar GRP after which, Shaikh was arrested for an alleged attempt to murder and sexually harass the complainant.
Surprisingly, a GRP officer was standing in a coach adjacent to the differently-abled coach where the entire incident took place. Apparently, the GRP personnel asked Shaikh to stop harassing the complainant.
