15-yr-old girl strangled to death by aunts

The police has arrested the alleged killers.

MUMBAI: A 15-year-old girl Mehnaz Mohd Hussain Qureshi was allegedly strangled to death by three of her aunts in Antop Hill on Sunday. The police has arrested the alleged killers. The police is yet to uncover the motive behind the murder, but strongly suspects that the murder was the result of an enmity that the accused had with Qureshi’s
parents.

According to police sources, the teenager was murdered by Sabira Sayyed (40), Sauliya Sayyed (35) and Umaira Sayyed (17). The police is yet to uncover the motive behind the murder, but strongly suspect personal enmity to be the cause. A police source said that the women were arrested after the father alleged that they had committed the crime.

DCP N. Ambika, Zone 4, said, “The arrests have been made under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to murder and the investigation is underway. After the post-mortem, the possibility of sexual assault or rape has been ruled out.”

The parents of the deceased had approached the police, but were allegedly asked to leave. However, after certain pressure they registered a case of murder. The Antop Hill police had also called in Qureshi's uncle and cousin for inquiry, after which they were let go.
