Misuse of Slum Rehab Scheme under scanner

Mumbai: The much-publicised Basic Services to Urban Poor (BSUP) project — a free housing scheme for slum-dwellers may just be an illusion, as many slum dwellers in Kashimira prefer to give their flats out on rent. To enhance the living standards of the urban poor, the civic administration had identified two-slum clusters — Janta Nagar and Kranti Nagar in Kashimira for implementing the housing project.
In past nine years, only 179 slum dwellers have been rehabilitated in multi-storey towers. In a startling revelation, around 128 slum dwellers are under the scanner for renting out homes to earn extra bucks.
