Law admissions extension not possible: CET to Bombay HC
The court accepted the submission and posted the matter for hearing next week.
Mumbai: The State Common Entrance Test (CET) cell has informed the Bombay high court that it cannot extend admission dates for the law course beyond December 7 as it concerns not only students from Maharashtra but also from all over the country and the remaining vacant seats have to be filled up. The CET cell made submissions during hearing of a writ petition filed by a student seeking postponement of admissions as the University of Mumbai had failed to provide his marksheet for the April 2017 exams.
A division bench of justices B.R. Gavai and Manish Pitale was hearing a writ petition filed by TY B.Com student, Vivekanand Panchal, praying for directions to the varsity to issue his marksheet, give him a photocopy of his answer sheet, and postpone admissions for the law course as he, and many other students like him, are still awaiting results of the 2017 exams.
During the hearing, the university said that it had got the marksheet of Mr Panchal and would give it to him after the hearing and that it would give a photocopy of his answer sheet in a couple of days. When advocate Vijay Kurle, who appeared for Mr Panchal, objected to the knee-jerk reaction of the university, the court asked the university to look into students’ grievances and submit an affidavit in this regard within a week.
Advocate S.S. Patwardhan who appeared for the CET cell submitted that any further delay would make it impossible to complete the academic year and vacant seats needed to be filled. The court accepted the submission and posted the matter for hearing next week.
