Mumbai: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is likely to attend a protest organised by opposition leaders in Nagpur during the winter session of the Maharashtra legislature on December 12. It would be Mr Gandhi’s first programme after becoming the Congress president. The agitation is slated to conclude with Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar’s speech. The winter session of Maharashtra legislature will begin from December 11.

The opposition Congress and NCP have planned an agitation on December 12, the second day of the winter session. The opposition parties are going to raise farmers issues and deteriorating law and order situation in the state during the agitation. The Congress has invited Rahul Gandhi to participate in the agitation. “We have invited Rahul ji for the protest, and we are hoping that he would come,” a Congress leader said. If Rahul Gandhi attends the protest, then it would be his first programme as the president of the Congress party. He has already filled his nomination for the party president’s post. The formal announcement will be made on December 11 in Delhi.

The NCP has also invited its party chief Sharad Pawar for the agitation. The NCP chief will conclude the protest with his speech. The opposition parties will be seen putting up a united front against the BJP-led government.
