Mhada's luxury project at BKC may start soon
The twin towers will have flats with 1,400 square feet area, which will be for members of the high-income group.
Mumbai: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority’s (Mhada) long-pending twin-tower project at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) is expected to finally commence soon.
The luxurious housing project will contribute to the rehabilitation of residents from economically weaker sections who have been residing at transit camps for years at different locations and have homes exclusively for those in the higher-income group.
The Bharat Nagar transit camp redevelopment planning project has got clearance and opened a door for the twin towers at BKC.
The twin towers will have flats with an area of 1,400 square feet, which will be for members of the high-income group only. It was decided that the income from selling of these flats would be used to build homes for those in the low-income group.
Ten years ago, a developer was selected through the appropriate procedure. A few days ago, the Mhada ordered the developer to start work.
When the twin tower project was declared by Mhada, activists criticised the project, stating that this project would not provide homes for those in the low-income group.
Mhada officials are sure that the project will get a good response. The high-rise twin towers will offer residents a view of Mahim seaface and sea link at one end and the wetlands on the other.
