Mumbai: As the election campaign is heating up, the social media cell of the state cyber police has increased its vigilance, since the cell is monitoring objectionable posts and morphed images of political leaders on social media sites. According to cyber police officers, the cell has come across around 40-50 objectionable posts and morphed images on social media sites since the announcement of the polls and ensured that they were deleted.

Superintendent of police (SP), cyber, Maharashtra, Balsingh Rajput said, “We’re closely monitoring everything. If we find something suspicious, we call the person concerned and take suitable action against it.”

He also added, “The number of posts, which are objectionable and vulgar, has increased for many days following the announcement of poll dates by the Election Commission.”

“We are well-equipped with the special cell to monitor and identify the offending posts on social media sites and the steps to be taken to discard them before they spread. We have already given our agenda to the Election Commission,” he added.

The police also keeps a watch on video-sharing platforms and has deleted many videos in the last few days. The police team keeps a watch on different social networking sites and copies the site address from the address bar of different websites. The link is mailed to social networking or video-sharing platform concerned with a request to delete them.
