Mumbai: Three out of four persons, who encroached upon a CIDCO land parcel in Kharghar for the purpose of development, have been arrested. The accused had produced forged allotment letters and memorandum of understanding (MoU) agreements to show that the land was allotted to one of them, who is now dead, for the purpose of developing it. The police is investigating the fraud to find out how signatures and other details were replicated.

The arrested accused have been identified as Prabhakar Mhatre (53), Lavesh Jadhav (39) and Narendra Barwadiya ali-as Patel (30), whereas the deceased accused has be-en identified as Joma Ko-li, a peasant who was frau-dulently shown as an allo-ttee of the CIDCO land.

The 694 square metre plot located at Kharghar is worth '1.86 crore, and was to be commercially exploited with the help of the forged documents. The group had procured a forged allotment letter, lease agreement, MoU, supplementary deed, and other land ownership trail documents.

An officer of the Navi Mumbai police station said, “After their roles and identities came to the fore, we found that they were habitual offenders and had fraudulently encroached upon CIDCO land parcels in the past. We believe that there are more persons involved including some insider who passed on information to them.”

The police is conducting a search of the accused’s homes and has filed a case.
