Mumbai: A 57-year-old French national, who is the trustee of a renowned school in suburban Andheri, was arrested on Tuesday, five months after he allegedly sexually assaulted a three-year-old girl inside the school premises, the police said.

Brillant Patrcik Mauris was arrested following the intervention of the Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR), five months after a case was registered against him at MIDC police station.

He was produced before a court which remanded him in police custody till November 14, a police official said.

Mauris is the trustee of the international school in Andheri, he said, adding that the woman class teacher of the minor girl allegedly assisted him in the crime and was made a co-accused in the case.

The victim's lawyer S Balakrishnan said the accused was booked under section 376 (punishment for rape) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on May 18.

"Since no action was taken by the police, we filed an application before the MSCPCR. After studying the case, the commission maintained that it was a fit case for arrest and directed police to take necessary action," he said.

Balakrishnan alleged that the minor girl was sexually assaulted on multiple occasions with the help of the woman class teacher.
