Mumbai: The Andheri police arrested two Iranians for cheating a person worth Rs 10,000 under the pretext of wanting to see how Indian currency looked like. The accused allegedly hypnotised the victim and fled with his money.

Police said that the arrested accused, identified as Ejaz Norimal Hamdani (48) and Hamid Simiya (54) have duped several others in Russia, Turkmenistan and Nepal using the similar modus. The duo would strike a chord with the locals and would seek to see the currency citing confusion.

“As per the statement of the victims, the accused would hypnotise them and hence there seems to be loose ends in the sequence of events. The duo had come to India on a tourist visa,” said an officer of Andheri police.

The officials said that the accused bumped into the complainant on a busy street and later talked out with him and duped him subsequently. The police scanned the Closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage of the spot and subsequently tracked down the duo and apprehended them.

A case has been filed against the duo under sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (Acts of common intention) as per the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and further investigation is underway.
