Repeat offender shoots 75-yr-old in bus to Bhayander

Mumbai: Seventy-five-year-old senior citizen Parvati Thakur was shot in the shoulder by Sumedh Karandikar (30) while travelling in a city bus bound to Bhayander from Thane on Friday. A history-sheeter, Karandikar shot the woman in a fit of rage after a creating ruckus. The victim was rushed to the hospital.

The Kasarvadavli police has arrested the accused with his revolver and booked him under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for an attempt to murder.

According to the police sources attached to the Kasarvadavli police station, the incident took place at 10.30 pm when the accused Karandikar, who was seated behind the victim Ms Thakur, was creating a commotion in the bus. He was picking up fights and disturbing the fellow passengers, following which some of the passengers confronted him. Karandikar then got violent and removed his country-made pistol and pointed it at the passengers. Karandikar accidentally pulled the trigger and shot Ms Thakur in the right shoulder. The other passengers then overpowered him and handed him over to the police. Ms Thakur’s daughter-in-law, Sulabha Thakur, a resident of Borivali East, who was accompanying her in the bus said, “The man was pointing the gun towards passengers, and when he pointed the gun towards us, he shot my mother-in-law. She is stable now, but has suffered a shoulder injury.”

The Kasarvadavli police  said, “We arrested the accused and have kept him in police custody.”
