MBMC ensures newborns fed in golden hour
Mira Road health post led by Dr. Tejaswini Lanjekar which topped the list with 1,135 bagged the first prize for an outstanding overall performance.
Mumbai: The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC)’s health department has ensured that 5,450 newborns in the twin-city were breastfed by their mothers within an hour after the delivery. This initiative took place under the flagship health scheme, MAA (Mothers’ Absolute Affection) launched by the government under the aegis of the National Breastfeeding Promotion Programme in 2016.
After receiving an in-depth training from health experts, MBMC's nurses, Accredited Social Health Activists, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives and Anganwadi Sevika’s have so far conducted 1,334 meetings with expectant mothers aimed at supporting and promoting breast feeding practices.
