MUMBAI: Annoyed at being spurned by her lover, who married another woman, a 22-year-old woman hatched a vengeful plot to defame his sisters. She made several fake Facebook profiles, in which she uploaded many objectionable and lewd pictures of the sisters, displaying their mobile numbers. The sisters approached Vile Parle police station with a complaint against the accused woman, after which the police registered a case and arrested her.

The accused has been booked and arrested under relevant sections of the IT Act. The complainant, said in the third week of May this year, that she started receiving many calls and messages from unknown users who spoke in an ill manner and demanded absurd things from her.

Following this, a few family members began enquiring about her online activity on the social networking websites, following which she saw that there were four Facebook profiles of her and her younger sister, wherein the accused had posted very vulgar pictures and videos and objectionable messages, citing prostitution.

Shocked by these revelations, the complainant alerted her family and approached the police over the fake profiles. The Crime Branch's unit 8 took over the case and began the probe.

An officer from Crime Branch said, "The first and foremost thing that we did was to block those Facebook profiles, and since the accused had used the victim's phone number in the profile, it was difficult to trace her. However, the police tracked the Internet Protocol (IP) address from where the posts were made, and nabbed a 22-year-old woman from Andheri."

"Upon interrogation it was revealed that she wanted to take revenge from the victim's brother, who dated her for eight years and then dumped her to marry another girl of his parents' choice. Heartbroken by the fact that he was happy in his newly married life, she hatched a plan to ruin the social life of his sisters, whom he treasured immensely," added the officer.

The police have booked the accused woman under relevant sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
