Ashok Chavan to brief Rahul Gandhi on Maratha stir

Mumbai: State Congress leaders will soon brief party president Rahul Gandhi on the Maratha reservation issue and its legal and political dimensions. The meeting between senior state Congress leaders and the Mr Gandhi will likely take place within the next few days in Delhi. The Congress has lent its support to quota for the Marathas.

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief Ashok Chavan will meet Mr Gandhi. A party source said, “Mr Chavan will explain all aspects of the current Maratha stir to him and also give a detailed report of legalities in the case and how it can be solved.”

There have been reports of the ongoing Maratha agitation proving beneficial for the BJP. A section of political analysts beli-eves that as the Marathas are politically strong co-mmunity and the Cong-ress and NCP have chosen to back them, other smaller groups are going with the BJP in reverse consolidation.
