Doctors strike postponed in view of floods
The state government had proposed to impose the MESMA Act on resident doctors if they did not resume duties Thursday morning.
Mumbai: As the central Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) postponed its strike for a hike in stipend until further notice, resident doctors resumed duties from 8 am Thursday. The MARD, however, made it clear that the strike had been postponed and not ended and that they would resume it if they did not get the hike till August 31.
Dr Kalyani Dongre, president central MARD, said, “Considering the worsened state of floods in the state and possible outbreaks, we don’t want patients to suffer. We at central MARD, in good faith and on humanitarian grounds, have postponed our agitation for the hike until further notice. Resident doctors have resumed duties from 8am Thursday. However, we have only postponed and not ended our agitation. We have already warned the DMER that if there is no hike in stipend by August 31, we will again go on strike.”
