Mumbai: Chief Justice of the Bombay high court Manjula Chellur has set up a two-judge committee to look into complaints received by the nodal officer regarding potholes in the city. While hearing a suo moto PIL about potholes, the court observed that despite several orders in issues concerning potholes, implementation had not been done properly by the authorities. The court also expressed displeasure when the nodal officer informed that he had received only 180 complaints in the last two months.

A division bench of chief justice Chellur constituted a bench with two members i.e. Justice K. R. Sriram and Justice Girish Kulkarni to deal with matters. “It seems that only lawyers have a problem with potholes and not the general public. After seeing the number of complaints received by the nodal officer, anyone can see that the public has no time. We were expecting a good response from the public,” the court said.

The court directed the nodal officer to advertise in local newspapers, radio and television channels as to where and when to register complaints about roads in bad condition. The court further directed that those advertisements be produced in court at next hearing.

“We do not want to run the administration. We  can interfere but that is not good for you,” the court said.
