Mumbai's renowned physio dies in fatal accident

Mumbai: A renowned physiotherapist, Dr Prakash Vaze was killed in a fatal accident in Mulund on Friday evening, after a truck hit the motorcycle he and his compounder were riding on. The compounder sustained injuries and is receiving treatment in a hospital. The accident took place near Anand Nagar check naka.
The 42-year-old truck driver has been arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police sources said that the accident took place near Anand Nagar check naka, when the Dr Vaze was on his way to his residence in Mulund, along with his compounder Mr Hanumant Hegde on a motorcycle registered with number MMJ5522. Coming from Thane, they were heading towards the Eastern Express Highway. A speeding truck hit them from behind, following which the motorcycle skidded, and the bike-borne duo fell off on the road.
Dr Prakash Vaze sustained injuries on the head and was declared brought dead upon arrival at a private hospital in Mulund. Dr Vaze’s compounder Hanumant Hegde sustained serious head and back injury and is said to be critical, added the source.
Madhav More, a senior police inspector of Navghar police station, confirmed the arrest of the truck driver and said, “The arrest has been made, and the further investigation is underway.”
The accused, Nilkanth Chavan (48) was arrested by Navghar police immediately after the accident and was booked under section 304(a), 338, 337 and 279 of the Indian Penal Code that pertains to causing death by negligence, causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others and rash driving on a public way respectively.
