Mr Nirupam mentioned that Mr Rao should be held for maligning Mr Gandhi’s name in the public domain.

Mr Nirupam arrived at the Versova police station on Friday afternoon with a few of his supporters and met with senior police inspector Kiran Kale. He submitted a complaint letter to Mr Kale. In his complaint letter, Mr Nirupam demanded appropriate action against Mr Rao.

In his letter to the police, Mr Nirupam wrote: “I request you to take action against Mr Rao of the BJP for his malicious tweet that was posted with the intent of causing defamation as well as promoting enmity and creating an atmosphere of hatred”.

Mr Nirupam said that Mr Rao should be arrested and his social media account should be blocked immediately. He demanded that action should be taken against Mr Rao for violation of section 66A of the IT Act, which provides punishment for sending offensive messages through communication services.

The offensive tweet.

Rahul Gandhi is certainly a ‘Babar Bhakt’ & a ‘Kin of Khilji’. Babar destroyed Ram temple & Khilji plundered Somnath. Nehru dynasty sided with both Islamic invaders. Travesty & Perversity of dynasty! (sic).”

Mr Nirupam said in his complaint that Mr Rao has made disparaging remarks and against Rahul Gandhi, and deliberately and maliciously tried to draw a defamatory connect between Delhi ruler Allaudin Khilji and Mr Gandhi.
