Two SRPF jawans sent to prison for defying transfer orders

Nagpur: In a most unusual incident, two jawans of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) group four battalion, were not only arrested by the city police but sent to jail under the Magisterial Remand Custody (MCR), for allegedly defying transfer orders.

They were identified as Mohan Chandra Pande (54) and Omprakash Lanjewar (57), both of the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASI).

The duo that belong to SRFP Hingana unit, here were served transfer orders to be posted in Naxal affected Gadchiroli District. But both sought cancellation of orders due to their age. They did not follow the top brass’ orders and amounted to gross indiscipline.

A Police complaint against both of them was lodged with MIDC police station under whose jurisdiction the SRPF camp falls. Cases of offences were registered against them under section 14 of SRPF act, which prohibits defying orders. Both were arrested on the night of Feb 7 and 9 and produced before a designated court in Hingana yesterday, which sent them to MCR.

Police Inspector Sunil Mahadik of MIDC Police Station told The Asian Age that the Court did not consider their plea and sent them to jail. The action was as per the SRPF Act 1979 (Conduct), he added. Offences under section 189 of IPC 145 of Bombay Police Act were registered against the two subordinate officers.
