Mumbai: Students of Mount Litera School International, as a part of its ‘Week Without Walls’ initiative, visited Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) police station to witness a day in the life of a police officer and their functionalities.

The initiative sought to allow students of all age groups to experience life outside the walls of the school. Apart from visiting the police station, students from the age group of three to 15 visited various places such as an aquarium, printing press, art village, cake factory and farms to learn how things function on the ground.

Ruchika Sachdev, head of the primary years programme at the school, told The Asian Age, “The idea behind visiting the police station is to remove the stereotypical fear everyone has of the police. During this visit, students poured their questions to the officers in order to understand how they work and how everything functions inside a police station.” According to her, teachers encouraged them to speak up and they asked questions pertaining to the shift schedule of police officers and how they protect the city, among other things.

The initiative is being held for the fifth year and around 400 students took part. The idea is to keep the students ‘grounded’ and inform them about everything around them. As part of the programme, students also fed and bathed animals and learned to plant tree saplings.
