Mumbai: An allegedly drunk Skoda driver rammed into a Hyundai Verna driven by one Muzammil Khot (30) outside Lilavati Hospital in Bandra. Mr Khot sustained a head injury in the accident and is receiving treatment in a private hospital.

The accused driver, Raj Kumar Mandal, was driving the car of a high court lawyer, who is out of town, in an allegedly inebriated state and was in the wrong lane, which resulted in the accident.

The Bandra police has arrested Mandal and will be conducting tests on him to verify if he was in an intoxicated state while driving.

According to police sources in Bandra police station, Mr Khot, a dairy farm owner in Kalyan, was driving to Lilavati Hospital in Bandra with his brother Sarwar-ul-Haq to visit his ailing father on Monday night.

Mandal, who was driving in the wrong lane, rammed the car into a divider and collided with Mr Khot’s Verna car.

The locals immediately rushed Mr Khot to Lilavati Hospital and handed over Mandal to the local police. Speaking to The Asian Age, Pandit Nivrutti Thackeray, senior police inspector of Bandra police station said, “Mr Khot refused to lodge a complaint with us as he was more concerned about his father’s health. We have sent Mandal for a medical test to see if he was driving in the intoxicated state.”

The police has contacted the high court lawyer, who owns the Skoda car and will be questioning him too.
