Mumbai: A 48-year-old interior developer-cum-construction contractor, Kishore Chaudhary, died Tuesday afternoon after a group of 10 men, four of them carrying firearms, attacked him at his work site, pumping 17 bullets into him. Chaudhary died on the spot while his friend and business partner, Nitin Joshi, also sustained a bullet wound and is being treated at a private hospital.

The police suspect the attack may be linked to Chaudhary’s business rivalry with another contractor named Shankar Bhoir. Bhoir, accompanied by three others including his brother Dilip, had a few days ago warned Chaudhary against taking up assignments in areas where he worked.

The police suspect that Shankar and Dilip, and Suraj Bhoir and Sagar Bhoir were among the 10 attackers who are absconding in the murder case.

The police has formed teams at local police stations and the crime branch to nab the suspects. Chaudhary was shot at eight times in the head and nine times in the chest at Shiv Amrut building in Thakurli, where he had taken up renovation work.

Dombivali police station senior PI, S.B. Shivarkar, said, “Chaudhary had taken the work of interior designing of a residential building named Devi Shivamrut. He started work a week ago. At around 11am on Tuesday, he went to the room on the ground floor of the building and started work. That’s when around 10 people entered the room and opened fire on him. His partner, Joshi, too, was fired at. A few days ago, Chaudhary and the suspects had a spat over a contract for renovation of a house in the
area.”
