MUMBAI: In bid to promote unreserved ticket booking through mobile phones, railway authorities have decided to provide a five per cent additional recharge value to commuters as part of the railway wallet aka R-wallet. R-wallet is an e-payment mode for booking tickets. A copy of the circular issued by director passenger marketing, Shelly Srivastava (railway board), to all railway zones including CR, is available with The Asian Age.

The circular reads, “With a view to promote unreserved ticket booking through mobile phones, it has been decided that 5 per cent of the recharge value will be added to R-wallet as bonus at the time of recharge of the R-wallet. This scheme will be  for a period of three months after which it will be reviewed.”

The R-wallet aims to promote a cashless economy along with manpower and paper savings. The R-wallet had a Rs 5,000 limit which has now been increased to Rs 10,000. A senior officer of the CR told The Asian Age, “The booking of tickets from R-wallet was Rs 4000 in April 2017 for 20,000 passengers. The booking of tickets from R-wallet at present is Rs 15,000 for 1 lakh passengers. With this incentive, we expect that more passengers will use R-wallet.”
