Mumbai: The Bombay high court has directed the state to file its reply with regards to the transfer of over 30,000 primary teachers of zilla parishad (ZP) schools, which was recently carried out arbitrarily. The affected teachers informed the court that interference by the state in the form of taking over activities of the ZP was contrary to its duties and hence, the transfers be quashed.

A division bench of Justices S.C. Dharmad-hikari and Bharati Dangre was hearing the plea of 592 ZP teachers who claimed that they had been transferred on the whims and fancies of the secretary of the rural and development department, who was aided and advised by an assistant teacher designated as state coordinator for transfer of ZP teachers.

After hearing arguments, the bench asked the state to file replies to the contentions of the ZP teachers before June 14.
