Students get extra day to complete admission process
The move was taken with students who could not go to the colleges to submit their documents, pay the fees and secure or confirm admissions in mind.
MUMBAI: In the wake of Monday’s heavy downpour, the state education department announced the grant of an additional day to students for securing admissions to junior colleges.
The original deadline for students to secure admission was 5 pm on July 9, but it has been extended to 5 pm on Tuesday. The move was taken with students who could not go to the colleges to submit their documents, pay the fees and secure or confirm admissions in mind.
State education minister Vinod Tawde tweeted, “The date for the first list of FYJC online admissions has been extended by one day. The decision was taken due to adverse weather conditions, resulting in students being unable to reach colleges to complete the procedures.”
Moreover, according to a statement released by Suvarna Kharat, the deputy school education secretary, there has been a staff crunch in the junior colleges due to heavy rains, delayed trains and traffic congestion because of which the deadline was extended.
Along with this, students whose names have not appeared in the first general merit list or want to seek FYJC (first year junior college) admissions, can start updating or filling admission forms between 11 am and 5 pm from Tuesday to Wednesday. The second general merit list will be declared on July 13.
This year, more than 2.3 lakh Class 10 students have applied for FYJC admissions so far. Out of these, 1.2 lakh pupils’ names appeared in the general merit list and 35,787 students secured admission in colleges according to their first preference. The total seat capacity in Mumbai and Thane region is around 3 lakh.
