Mumbai: Two off-duty coast guards rescued a drowning 35-year-old woman from the sea near Gateway of India on Tuesday night.

A timely and prompt response saved the woman’s life, who was rescued with the help of rope and was given a CPR as she was not breathing.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night at around 9 pm when the coast guards, Vinod and Rahul were on an evening walk near the Gateway of India.

Vinod and Rahul saw a crowd gathered near hotel Taj Palace calling for help to save a woman drowning in the sea. Following this, they jumped in to rescue her and rushed her to St. George’s Hospital.

“Vinod jumped into the sea with a rope tied to his waist and Rahul held on to the rope with the help of a policeman on duty. Vinod valiantly braving high waves saved the woman in distress and brought her to a nearby ramp. Since the woman was not breathing, Naviks administrated her a CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) and revived her,” said a coast guards personnel.

Both the naviks accompanied the woman till they made sure the hospital attends to her immediately.
