Mumbai: The health department has increased the number of medical teams dispatched to flood-affected Western Maharashtra from 162 to 325, the health department said on Friday.

Meanwhile, house-to-house surveys are being carried out to treat illnesses such as fever, diarrhoea, and jaundice.

“The medical teams include medical officers and para medicos. I urge flood-affected people to come for their check ups and take all the necessary preventive measures,” state health minister Eknath Shinde said.

At present, medical teams are examining those who have taken shelter in temporary relief camps. Regional officers of the health department have also been directed to maintain general cleanliness, clean gutters, and dispose off waste with the help of gram panchayat staff.

The department has also been maintaining a 24X7 control room to monitor the situation.

People suffering from high fever are to be referred to primary health centers or the medical team in the villages, the health department said, adding that infants suffering from dysentery should be immediately admitted to the nearest hospital.
