Mumbai: The corpse of an unidentified man wrapped in a plastic bag was found in a creek in the Kalher area of Thane on Saturday evening.

According to the police, they were informed about the body on Saturday evening after a local resident went to the Reti Bunder to immerse flowers and discovered the corpse floating there. Prima facie, it appears to be a case of murder, and a manhunt has been launched to nab the accused, the police said.

An officer at the Narpoli police station said, “The body was later fished out and sent for a post-mortem.”

“The police  suspect that the man, aged around 30 to 40 years, was murdered and the body was later dumped in the creek, a police officer said.

A case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing the disappearance of evidence of an offence) was registered and a manhunt has begun to find the murderer,” he added.

The police is going through missing person reports to ascertain the deceased’s identity.

Thane police officials said, “It appears that the body had been in the water for a long time as the flesh has been nibbled by fish. We have sent the body to a civic hospital for examination, but no superficial injuries were spotted.”
