Rains lash city, heavy spell seen in suburbs

The traffic police has asked also commuters to check weather conditions before travelling while the Delhi Metro too has decided to exercise extreme caution in running of trains.

Mumbai: The city on Monday witnessed a relatively intense pre-monsoon spell of rain and strong winds. Heavy showers were also recorded in the suburbs along with Thane, Kalyan and Dombivali while Navi Mumbai saw moderate to heavy spells in areas such as Kharghar and Panvel.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, no waterlogging-related issues were reported in areas prone to such occurrences, but some people took to social media to show water accumulation in areas such as Kurla and Sion.

The BMC also stated that there was only one complaint about a branch falling in Central Mumbai. Heavy rainfall was recorded in eastern suburbs areas such as Bhandup Complex (29 mm), Gavanpada Fire  Station (17mm) and Kurla Fire station (7mm). The western suburbs also recorded light rains at Chincholi Fire Station (13 mm), Dindoshi Fire Station (13mm) and Malwani Fire Station (10mm).

Trains on the western line were running late by 10 to 15 minutes due to an overhead wire tripping in between Mahim and Virar station. However the issue was resolved soon. Central Railway also saw a delay due to similar issues.
