Two arrested with charas worth Rs 84 lakh
Shaikh was arrested in the previous case and released only in 2014 after which, he started peddling charas again.
Mumbai: The Worli unit of the anti-narcotics cell (ANC) has arrested two persons including a resident of Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir, and seized 20.92 kg charas worth Rs 83.68 lakh from them.
The Worli unit of ANC carried out the drug bust and officials said that the contraband was procured from Anantnag after it made its way into the country from across the border. The arrested accused have been identified as Haji Abdul Rehman Ali Shaikh (67), a resident of Anantnag, who was arrested by the same ANC unit in a similar case in 2010; and Irfaan Maisar Qureshi (42), a Nagpada-based taxi driver who helped Shaikh ferry the contraband while it was being taken to the receivers.
Shaikh was arrested in the previous case and released only in 2014 after which, he started peddling charas again. In the past two months, in the name of a garments business, Shaikh has delivered 50 kg charas in Mumbai, officials said.
