Auditors must file reports on dilapidated buildings within 15 days

Mumbai: Structural advisors will face the BMC’s ire if they fail to submit their report on any dilapidated building within the stipulated 15 days to the civic technical advisory committee (TAC). The civic body has decided a time frame of 15 days within which consultants will be expected to submit their report. According to the BMC, the move will ensure that there is no delay in future in taking decisions on dilapidated buildings.

The civic body’s new rule states that structural auditors are now expected to complete paperwork and submit reports pertaining to any dilapidated structure within 15 days to the TAC.

According to the BMC, any auditor registered under the civic administration who fails to abide by this rule will be blacklisted or will have his registration cancelled. Many a time, auditors fail to submit audit papers on time to the TAC which leads to delay in decision making on dilapidated buildings. Sometimes, more than one consultant is hired to conduct an audit of dangerous structures and the final report contains remarks from each of these auditors which is then referred to the TAC.

In the event the committee finds fault with the report, a letter is sent to the concerned auditor. Earlier, there was no fixed time period for auditors to file their reply but now, they will be expected to file a reply within the stipulated 15 days.
