Pune: Surendra Gadling, one of the accused who has been jailed for his connections with the banned Maoist party, on Wednesday accused the police for framing him as he fights cases for the tribals. He also claimed that there was no need to invoke the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act against him. Gadling was defending himself during his bail plea, which was heard at the special court of Justice K. D. Wadane in Pune.

“Sections of UAPA for terrorism are invoked against us, but the definition of terrorism as per the act says that, such act that would create threat to sovereignty of India with the use of bombs, explosives and so on, or such act that will incite other people to kill. Our actions do not fall in the category of this act.”

Gadling added, “This investigation is tainted. Even Justice Dhanajay Chadrachud, Supreme Court judge said the same.”  He also said, “The Maharashtra police held a press conference in which they accused us of plotting to kill PM Modi. And no FIR has been filed in the charges regarding the plot to kill Modi.”

He also questioned the credibility of the letters that were allegedly sent by Rona Wilson and Gadling to G. Saibaba, who is in jail for Maoist connections.

The court will hear the police’s side on October 12.
