MU Law students still await exam dates
The question papers that were prepared on 60:40 pattern are now being restructured to 100-mark.
Mumbai: Twelve days after the Bombay high court stayed the 60:40 examination pattern and the University of Mumbai (MU) postponed the Law examinations, students are still awaiting the examination dates. The exams were supposed to be conducted before Diwali vacations but the dates are yet to be finalised.
According to sources close to the varsity, question papers that were prepared on the basis of the 60:40 pattern are now being restructured to make them 100-mark question papers, as per the high court order.
“The final exam dates could be out by next week, but we are not sure as we are still working on the question papers,” the source revealed.
In August, the varsity came up with the new exam pattern of 60:40 for Law courses, which was originally a 100-mark paper. However, this idea did not go down well with many students and student organisations, who started protesting against the varsity’s decision.
This is applicable to the three-year LL.B and five-year BLS-LLB (Bachelor of Legal Science and Bachelor of Law) courses of the varsity and its affiliated colleges.
Most exams were to be conducted from November 15, and after the HC judgment, MU informed students and colleges in a circular about the change in the exam pattern and the postponement of the exam. However, it did not mention the new dates.
Law students said they had to prepare hard for internal assessment (40 marks) but now all their work has gone down the drain.
“We had assignments and projects last month for which we all prepared hard. Now, what about all that? The HC has scrapped the entire 40-mark system but what about all our preparations and efforts,” asked a student.
