Drugs worth Rs 14.5 lakh seized from businessman

Mumbai: The Mumbai police’s anti-narcotics cell has arrested a businessman from Khar and seized cocaine and synthetic drugs, including LSD dots, worth Rs 14.56 lakh from him. Following a tip off, the Azad Maidan unit of ANC kept the residence of Bakul Chanderia at Khar’s 14th Road under surveillance and after a few days swooped on him on Saturday night. The tip-off stated that the suspect was storing substantial quantities of drugs at his residence.
When the officials landed at Chanderia’s residence, they stumbled upon 106 grams of cocaine worth Rs 8.48 lakh, 90 LSD dots worth Rs 4 lakh along with cash, in all totalling Rs 14.56 lakh.
“We have arrested the accused and are questioning him to verify his kind of business and from whom he procured the narcotics substance. His customers are also being verified,” said Shivdeep Lande, deputy commissioner of police (ANC).
A case has been registered against Chanderia under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) and he was produced in a holiday court on Sunday, which remanded him in police custody till Saturday.
Earlier, the ANC officials seized 2.80kg of heroin worth Rs 2.08 crore from two persons in November.
